Yer Dead. (2006)

Yer Dead is the newest Black Brians album. Yer Dead began with the idea of us doing a metal album. This eventually transformed into an album with the noisiest, most abrasive production ever put to tape, as far as I can tell. The album features virtuoso drum machine programming, heavy riffs, noise interludes, layers upon layers of feedback, and guitars played with power tools.

As far as songwriting goes, these are 10 very strong and memorable tunes, if they were produced by Butch Vig or someone like that, they'd definitely be hits, but they were produced by The Black Brians, so they're not very radio-friendly. Most of the songs are performed on The Peacemaker and The Devil's Dulcimer, two home-built electric string instruments that we rigged up. The lows, mids, and highs on everything are in the red making this the loudest album in my cd collection.

Also, there are 10 different varieties of cover art on these home-made cds! collect them all?

Sweet Lady H (2005)

Sweet Lady H is The Black Brians' second album. The style is very similar to their debut, ART , but it's more focused: ART was a mishmash of styles and jokes; Sweet Lady H is a more serious exploration of sin and redemption.

That said, Sweet Lady H isn't a lame attempt at making art more "serious" by slowing it down and adding strings. The songs on Sweet Lady H cover a range of subjects including Satanic possession, late-term abortion, apocalypse, nihilism, cannibalism, barbershop, prison, the occult, death, and oral sex. Rockers like Sgt. Bones and The Ghost Hole are as hard as anything from the first album, and the band explores new territory on more plaintive, mellow numbers like Stars and Charles Dixon . Velocity is a guitar showcase over a bluesy prison-break lyric; while The Locksmith's Daughter is audio noir; a 6-minute spoken word that is the albums centerpiece.

If you liked ART, you'll love Sweet Lady H. If you didn't like ART, you'll still love Sweet Lady H. If you haven't heard ART, you should buy both. Check out our mp3 page for song samples.

ART (2004)

ART is the culmination of The Black Brians' first three years as a band. Starting in high school, the duo has written hundreds of songs; these are seventeen of the best.

Recorded in a basement on cheap equipment, these songs combine fuzzy guitars, bass, and sometimes keyboards with fuzzy vocals and a vintage drum machine. Low-fi but high-energy, the music is defiantly unmelodic - instead, you find the hooks in the band's manic shouting about zombies and astronauts. In one sense, it's very punk-rock, but the Black Brians aim to please, and somehow the record isn't as abrasive as it sounds on paper. The songs run the gamut stylistically; highlights include the hard riffing of Zombies , the weird folk-rock of   Gourmand , the punky Billy's Song , and the band's hilarious yet tender butchering of the Goo Goo Dolls' Iris . It's a manic mess, but in a good way.

At $7, you owe it to yourself to check out this album. Of course, there are samples on our mp3 page, if you'd like to actually hear a bit before buying.
